On November 1st, the inaugural members' congress of the Rugao Development Association was grandly held in the auditorium of the Rugao Administrative Center. This significant gathering brought together numerous distinguished individuals who returned to their hometown from across the nation, including Academician Zhu Meifang of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and Lu Yalin, Special Assistant to the President of the University of Science and Technology of China. They were joined by Rugao municipal leaders such as Wang Minghao and Gu Liuzhong. Together, they shared familiar local accents and deep hometown sentiments while collaboratively charting a blueprint for Rugao's future development. A key outcome of this congress was the election of Mr. Gu Roujian, Vice Chairman and General Manager of Jiuding New Material, as an inaugural council member of the Rugao Development Association.
Since the preparatory work for the Association commenced in July 2024, its organizational structure has been initially established, with various tasks progressing in a solid and orderly manner. Looking ahead, the Association will closely adhere to its founding purpose, which focuses on "serving the central mission to promote economic development; serving people's livelihoods to promote social development; and serving distinguished talents to promote talent development." It aims to become a high-energy platform for pooling wisdom and connecting resources, with a particular emphasis on supporting Rugao's number one project: the "Empowering the City through the Port" strategy.
During the same-day event dedicated to soliciting opinions and suggestions for Rugao's 15th Five-Year Plan, the assembled dignitaries engaged in in-depth discussions on critical topics. These included the "Empowering the City through the Port" strategy, cultivating new quality productive forces, and cross-river integration and opening-up. Wang Minghao, Party Chief and Mayor of Rugao, emphasized in his address that the city is currently at a critical juncture for leapfrog development. He stated that Rugao now needs the attention and support of its esteemed talents more than ever before, and he sincerely invited everyone to become active "participants" in Rugao's economic growth, "contributors" to its social construction, and "ambassadors" for its excellent culture. The election of business leaders like Gu Roujian to the council underscores the Association's commitment to integrating industrial expertise into its core efforts to drive local progress.
